"ETHS" is quite a heavy metal band, "III" was the first album that I fully listened to. You know that feeling when you gradually fall in love with something. First looking a little, then coming back again and again, and that’s something that’s been with you all your time. So it was with this band, I was captivated by their dark heavy energy, pagan aesthetic and the charm of the vocalist Candice, whose vocals seemed to me more powerful than the male vocals in this genre.
I also grew up in Khakassia, a republic in the south of Siberia, which has a lot of prairies and shamanic influence. It all layered up and added a drop to my love of ancient magic and the dark side.
from the series "Dark side of a new culture".
The love of darkness was born in my childhood, and if you read the descriptions under my paintings, you will learn a little more. It shows the goddess from the album cover of "III" by ETHS, and this is one of my favorite dark and frightening images in modern art. I often used it, once I worked in a company that was engaged in the manufacture of escape rooms. There was a task to make a wall painting for the horror room "Lilith".
Working in this subject was my favorite, and I took this image as a reference. There I depicted a goddess breaking out of her underworld to the earth, there was a lot of cruelty and bloodshed, perhaps you can still see it on my Instagram. I didn’t like the result of that wall from the technical side. But the process was fun, because for about a week I literally lived this way.
